Governance, Risk and Compliance Facilitator

Laura is an enterprise-wide risk management specialist and has 20 years’ risk management experience across industries and geographies, both in industry and as a consultant. She is a co-founder and director of Satarla Pty Ltd. Over the years, Laura assisted companies to develop, implement and evolve their risk management to be fully integrated and effective in decision-making.   Laura is an advocate of Governance, Risk and Compliance and maintains that they go hand in hand, increasingly Laura is helping organisations to develop and measure the right KPI’s for success. Laura has had various risk roles including risk management and strategy consulting, business risk manager for various business units at a multinational mining company, and as Global Head of Sustainability Risk where she played a key role in driving the sustainability agenda. Laura has also developed and implemented Business Continuity Plans. Laura is a registered facilitator and has designed and facilitates a number of courses (i.e. risk management and governance, risk & compliance) on behalf of the University of the Free State and the Institute of Risk Management South Africa (IRMSA). She was involved in the development of the initial International Risk Management Standard (ISO31000), and was part of the SA ISO 31000 review team for the recently launched ISO 31000 2018 Standard. Laura gives back to risk management through mentorship, knowledge transfer and volunteers on the IRMSA Education and Technical Committee, and has been instrumental in the drive towards professionalisation of risk management.
